What is Parent Coaching?

Like an athletic coach or job coach, parent coaching helps you reach your potential. Coaching identifies areas where you are strong and supports you to overcome challenges. Raising a child is not often intuitive. Parent coaching is for anyone who wants to feel confident and capable of raising a child or children in a connected, developmentally appropriate and loving environment but can’t spend inordinate hours a day reading and researching how to do it.

Coaching is different from counseling. Coaching is strength and goal oriented, in other words I am your forward-focused thinking partner who also happens to know a lot about childhood development, communication, motivation and school advocacy. Counseling works on problems rooted in the past. Counseling and coaching can and often do complement each other.

Coaching is not consulting. You will not be spoon-fed cookie cutter solutions like a consultant would. You will be engaged answering questions that guide you to find answers that work for your unique family. You will receive tips and expert knowledge, to inform your solutions. I will never judge you, your answers or your family life. Unexpected Journey Parent Coaching is a safe space.

Our Clients Say

I'm much better at articulating myself in writing and so I wanted to say once again how very grateful I am for the coaching sessions. I can see why you are a parent coach, because you're clearly a natural. You gave me so much great advice, but also found a way to pull out knowledge and skills that were already inside of me. In this relatively short amount of time, I've learned so much about myself, my family, and my parenting that I would have not been able to get anywhere else. I'm feeling a bit more on the hopeful side at the moment, because I do think that over time these lessons will really help me and my family. You've helped me focus on connecting with my kids, which that in itself seems like the most valuable lesson I could possibly learn on this parenting journey!
